ACADEMICS

Classical Christian Education

Trinity Christian School subscribes to the Classical Christian education model which means we have a strong emphasis on “the basics.” At Trinity, teachers focus on a few subjects but with great depth, standing in contrast to a “progressive” education, which is broad and shallow. Grammar, logic, and rhetoric are emphasized in all subjects at Trinity. By grammar, we mean the fundamental rules of each subject. Each subject has its own grammar, which we require the students to learn. This enables the students to learn the subject from the inside out. Research has shown that children learn best when student-to-teacher ratios are low. Students receive much care and attention and benefit from small class sizes. Because the ratios are low, teachers are able to ensure that students understand concepts before moving on to new material.

*This report shows that every grade level tested above average. For example, the sixth grade shows a class-wide grade equivalent average of 10.5+. This means that the average tenth grader in the fifth month of tenth grade would score as well as our sixth graders. We are very proud of our student's achievements and of our dedicated teaching staff.

Daily Chapel

Through daily chapel service and direct moral instruction, children at Trinity are taught to look to God. As a result, children are orderly, hopeful, and thoughtful. In this structure, a child progresses in the attributes of personality that shape his destiny: self-confidence, initiative, self-discipline, and the ability to solve his own problems.

Strong Phonics Program

Students are exposed to a strong phonics foundation. Beginning in kindergarten, they are taught how to read and write using an intensive phonics program, fostering a facility for reading great literature. By grade two, most children excitedly delve into chapter books, embarking on many adventures in reading.

Traditional Arithmetic

When students properly learn their math facts, they are able to soar in future mathematical endeavors. It is very difficult to solve equations or think scientifically without a solid grasp of basic arithmetic. At Trinity Christian School, students learn their arithmetic through lively daily drill and practice where students are able to work at their own pace.

Science Exploration

Starting in kindergarten, scientific thinking is fostered. Through every school discipline, children use scientific skills such as observing, classifying, sorting, summarizing, and accurately articulating. Moreover, Trinity students participate in science class, regularly getting their hands dirty with their science experiments. A number of graduates of Trinity have gone on to medicine and other fields of science.

History

Through Bible, American and world history, students gain a biblical view of history.  American History is studied in detail in the upper grades as well as studies of ancient civilizations, including not only the history, but also the geography of the people and events under study.

The Arts and Languages

In their weekly hour of art instruction, students are taught basic art skills using a variety of mediums. Each year, student art work is submitted to the Arizona State Fair, with Trinity students regularly bringing home prize ribbons. Moreover, students learn to love language through Spanish introduction in grades K-3, while grades 4-6 begin their instruction in written and oral Latin.

See our Homeschoolers page regarding language opportunities.

Music

Children at Trinity learn the value and beauty of music. Students are exposed to music through daily chapel and our regular music program. From an early age, children are taught how to read and play music. Older students are encouraged to join our beautiful hand bell choir for performances throughout the year. Our very special Christmas program is a celebration using our musical talents to the glory of God.

See our Homeschoolers page regarding music opportunities.

Physical Education

We value physical activity at Trinity.  Students are given an outlet for structured physical activity several times a week where students learn and develop skills such as teamwork and good sportsmanship.  Trinity has a large basketball court and field and students are instructed in sports such as basketball, Lacrosse, baseball, kickball, flag football and more.
